Bed Bookcase

Designed for the bedside, this bookcase however serves equally well in the entrance hall as a focal point next to the Lord Peebles Side Chair.

Size: (w x d x h)
330mmx230mmx800mm

Peebles Side Chair

The square and stout design is remarkably comfortable, and pleasing to the eye without looking bulky. Leaded glass is framed by solid wood, and the absence of side lead allows for vertical flexibility.

Fine Crockery Display Cabinet

I designed this one for some fine original Venician glassware that my wife inherited.

The final version has three display shelves, and we painted it in a "Mango" Milk Paint colour. To create a more streaky effect, we added some "Coconut" to the first two coats, and then gave it another two coats with the standard Mango colour. Once it was thoroughly dried, I sanded the surface smooth, thereby sanding through some of the top layers, to reveal the first coats. This resulted in a lovely subtle two-tone effect. The wear-edges were then scuffed until the wood started to show on the edges and general wear areas. As I made the unit out of solid Sapele, the dark wood contrasts beatifully against the warmth of the Mango colours.

Kitchen table

I was given some offcuts of ancient flooring from the Cape Castle (when it was renovated), and created a kitchen table-top from that. Due to the short lengths of the pieces, I used a double breadboard design to achieve the final length. The skirt, drawers and internal framework are also from the original wood, but the legs were cut from a block of local Cypress.

It is painted with "Moonlight" milk paint, the edges worn with Scotchbrite pads, and then oiled with raw Linseed oil and finally with 4 coats of Teak oil to a beautiful satin finish.
